Review: On Fire

On Fire by Nancy Holder
Young Adult
Publisher: MTV Books
Source: Purchased
Overall: 5/5
Based on the hit MTV series Teen Wolf—a teenage boy’s life changes forever after he’s bitten by a werewolf.Scott was just a regular guy until one bite changed his life. Now he struggles to understand who he is and what he might become. Is he more wolf than human—or is it the other way around? Whichever it is, it’s not going to be easy. Scott tries to control his urges, but mostly he’s scared that it’s his urges that could end up controlling him.     On Fire is the story of what happens when you to walk the line between what you want and what you can’t help from wanting. Will the bite end up being a gift? Or will it be a curse? And what will it all mean for Scott’s relationship with Allison—the girl he can’t get enough of? Only time will tell if he should embrace his newfound powers, or if he should fear them.
I'm not quite sure how to write this review, since I already love Teen Wolf and this book was just the icing on the cake to my obsession. With On Fire you really get more background information from the fire and seeing how Derek was before the fire really lets you understand why he is the way he is now.

For those who haven't become obsessed with the show yet, the book starts off with the town believing there's a mountain lion attacking people. Scott McCall and his best friend Stiles know better. Terrorizing the town is a rogue alpha werewolf, who's got a secret agenda that involves killing a whole bunch of people tied to the Hale fire.

Scott wanted to have the normal high school experience. Getting bitten by a werewolf and having a girlfriend who's family is full of werewolf hunters is not on his list of things he had planned. Learning to control his new werewolf instincts is difficult, especially when the alpha calls to him - urging him to kill.

Teaching Scott control is natural born werewolf Derek Hale. Derek is dead set against Scott dating a hunter's daughter. Past experience tells him that it can never end well. Derek has his own plans to find the alpha, but he's really got Scott's best interest in mind. Even if he doesn't go about the best way of doing it.

On Fire follows the show really, for those who would be concerned about that. Nancy Holder did a great job of writing the characters to perfection. It's a quick read and a great addition to MTV's Teen Wolf.
